Center for Arizona Policy

Cathi Herrod is president of Center for Arizona Policy (CAP), a nonprofit advocacy organization committed to promoting and defending the foundational principles of life, marriage and family, and religious freedom. A total of two hundred (200) CAP-supported bills have been passed into law since CAP made its first appearance at the state Capitol in 1995.

As a mother, lawyer, and family advocate, Cathi knows that what happens at the state Capitol directly impacts our daily lives.

Cathi is an award-winning public policy leader. Arizona newspapers have recognized her as one of the ten most influential leaders and as one of the key people “with the juice” at the Arizona Capitol.

She is the recipient of the Family Champion Award from Focus on the Family, the William Wilberforce Award from Students for Life of America, and the Deborah Award from Family Life Radio. Alliance Defending Freedom recognized Cathi and CAP with the Alliance Award in 2014.

At the state Capitol, Cathi has led the effort to pass significant pro-life legislation, including the Abortion Consent Act, Abortion Clinic Regulations, and the Mother’s Health and Safety Act.

Cathi joined Center for Arizona Policy as Legislative Counsel in 1997. Now in her sixteenth year as President, Cathi has set an ambitious 3-year strategic plan for the organization with a vision that sees:

  • Arizona as a state where the sanctity of human life is protected and defended from its very beginning to its natural end
  • Marriages and families are esteemed and thrive with enduring generational impact
  • Religious freedom is affirmed, free from government interference.

Cathi earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors and Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin. Cathi and her husband, Mike, reside in Phoenix and have two adult children.

Chris St. John is the Vice President of Advancement for Center for Arizona Policy (CAP), a nonprofit advocacy organization committed to promoting and defending the foundational values of life, marriage and family, and religious freedom. A total of two hundred (200) CAP-supported bills have been passed into law since CAP made its first appearance at the state Capitol in 1995.

Chris joined the CAP team in 2012 and has worked to build meaningful relationships with CAP ministry friends throughout Arizona. By connecting CAP’s mission and vision with like-minded people across the state, Chris works to secure funding in order to sustain this important work for years to come.

Prior to coming to CAP, Chris pastored in churches in Texas and Kentucky for nearly twenty years, and holds a Master of Theology from Campbellsville University. He is a native of Des Moines, Iowa. Chris is married to his college sweetheart, Maranda, and together they have three children.

Allison MacMurtrie

Allison MacMurtrie is the Chief of Staff for Center for Arizona Policy (CAP), a nonprofit advocacy organization committed to promoting and defending the foundational values of life, marriage and family, and religious freedom. A total of two hundred (200) CAP-supported measures have been passed since CAP made its first appearance at the state Capitol in 1996.

Allison joined the CAP team in 2013 and leads planning and operations across the organization and works to direct all administrative, financial, and operational activity for CAP. She organizes and prioritizes critical issues and required information to facilitate efficient decision making to ensure the smooth operation of the organization and it’s team.

Prior to coming to CAP, Allison worked in the private sector for over 20 years in the areas of operations, human resources, accounting, and marketing. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Arizona State University. She is a native of Illinois but has called Arizona home since she was a teenager. Allison has 2 adult daughters.
