Hands Off Our Kids!

“The state has no right to take our children away and to give them experimental drugs” — Aaron Baer, President of Ohio’s Citizens for Community Values (CCV) and former VP of Communications at Center for Arizona Policy.

This week CCV held a press conference denouncing a recent court hearing in Ohio where parents lost custody of their child because they would not approve of their child taking hormone-manipulating drugs in order to “transition” to the opposite gender.

Yes, this incomprehensible denial of parental rights happened in America. Writing in Public Discourse, Andrew Walker, Director of Policy Studies at Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission stated:

“This ruling represents a brazen assault on the rights of parents who love, care, and want what is best for their child, but disagree with the transgender ideology that says the best way to a healthy future is to identify as a member of the opposite sex.”

Read more about the ruling in Baer’s weekly update “The Rundown” and here.

Thankfully, Arizona has strong parental rights statutes in ARS 1-601 and 1-602 granting parents the fundamental right to oversee health care decisions of their children. But, the ruling stresses the critical importance of our work at the Capitol to oppose bills like SB 1160 and HB 2594 that would prohibit parents from being able to find counseling for their child that struggles with gender identity issues.

When Harry Became Sally

One of the best resources out there to understand and respond to the transgender movement is Ryan T. Anderson’s When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment.

Anderson’s book “provides thoughtful answers to all of these questions. Drawing on the best insights from biology, psychology, and philosophy, Ryan T. Anderson offers a balanced approach to the policy issues, a nuanced vision of human embodiment, and a sober and honest survey of the human costs of getting human nature wrong.” (Amazon product information)

In his review of the book, Boyce College Professor Denny Burk writes, “When Harry Became Sally is a comprehensive source for all the scientific, philosophical, and medical information one needs in order to evaluate transgender claims. I can’t recommend this book highly enough.”
