Breaking News - New Marriage Amendment Bill Passes Committee!

The marriage amendment referendum got back on track in the House Judiciary Committee today by a vote of 6-4. The referendum will give you the opportunity to vote on placing the following language into the Arizona Constitution: "Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state."

The original bill was thrown off course last week when opponents added a hostile amendment on the House floor. That's why today's vote in the Judiciary committee was on a new bill, SCR 1042, which does not include the hostile language. SCR 1042 needs to pass the full House and Senate in order to be on the ballot in November.

CAP thanks House Speaker Jim Weiers for his leadership in bringing the marriage amendment back. We also thank Senator Ron Gould and Representative Eddie Farnsworth for their sponsorship of SCR 1042.

Thanks to all of you who have called or emailed your legislators about the marriage amendment. Your calls and emails do make a difference!

Please take a moment to send Speaker Weiers a thank you email here. Also, continue to encourage your two representatives to allow the people to decide the future of marriage in our state.

Yours for Arizona Families,
