Media Ignores Homeschool Rally

Is the media accurately reporting what’s happening at the capitol?  Let’s look at two rallies last week, and let you answer that question for yourself.

The Homeschooler’s Family Day at the Capital was hosted by Arizona Families for Home Education (AFHE) last week on March 2nd.

The March4Schools event was hosted by the Arizona Education Association (AEA) on March 4th. (The Arizona Education Association is the public school teachers union and is currently partnering with Planned Parenthood to train candidates for the 2010 election)

At the homeschool rally, over 1,000 people showed up in support. Governor Jan Brewer, Senator Huppenthal, and Speaker of the House Kirk Adams all spoke in support of homeschool education. Only one news service, Cronkite was there for coverage. As far as we know, no other publication picked up on the story.

At the AEA rally, about 200 people joined at the capitol to rally for public education. Yet, the media attention would make you think it was much bigger. The AEA rally got coverage from: KTAZ Fox 10, Yumasun.com, Arizona Daily Star.com, East Valley Tribune.com, AZCentral.com, KPHO Channel 5, KTVK Channel 3, The Daily Courier, and KVOA.com.

This should really concern the families of Arizona. With this media bias, you should be thinking, “Am I really getting the whole story?” Every article, video or news posting you see shouldn’t automatically be taken for fact. Challenge the things you are reading.

With over 1,000 persons attending the Homeschooler’s Family Day at the Capital, driving from places like Prescott to support the rally, one would think more media attention would be warranted. Families of Arizona need to remain informed. CAP will continue to make sure that we’re keeping you informed on these important issues.
