CAP Bills Moving Along, Making Progress
As the CAP Legislative Agenda is being finalized (and will be released on Friday February 5), a few of our CAP-supported bills are moving through the state legislature. As of Wednesday afternoon, two important CAP-supported bills passed through committee hearings in the Arizona House of Representatives.
HB 2596 passed the House Government committee late on Tuesday night. CAP Attorney Deborah Sheasby testified in support of the bill. This bill ensures that churches are not discriminated against when it comes to government land use regulations. It is a great way to ensure the religious freedom of churches.
HB 2148 passed (vote of 5-3 down party lines) the House Health committee on Wednesday afternoon. This bill ensures that married couples are given preference when children are being placed for adoption. CAP President Cathi Herrod testified that the bill is a "common-sense measure with flexible provisions." The bill gives many exceptions for children to be placed in single-parent households when it is in the child's best interest.
Stay tuned for updates as these bills move through the legislative process!
