Undercover Video Suggests AZ Abortion Doctor Skirts Law, Highlights Need for SB 1367

A shocking new video released today by The Center for Medical Progress catches an Arizona abortion doctor discussing potential trafficking of aborted baby body parts – and joking about the need to workout her biceps so she has the strength to abort babies.

In the video, Dr. DeShawn Taylor, formerly of Planned Parenthood, now with Desert Star Family Planning in Phoenix had a cavalier attitude about taking life and skirting the law.

When asked about babies born alive during abortion attempts, Taylor didn’t mention a 42-year-old law requiring her to try to save the baby’s life. Instead she tipped her hand, saying, “The key is you have to pay attention to who’s in the room… because the law states you are not supposed to do any maneuvers after the fact to try to cause fetal demise.”

Center for Arizona Policy President Cathi Herrod commented, “It’s striking how Dr. Taylor describes the law as prohibiting her from finishing the abortion once the baby is outside the womb, instead of requiring her to do everything she can to save the life of a baby born alive.” Herrod continued, “Doing nothing more to hasten the baby’s death is a far cry from using all means necessary to try to save the baby’s life, which is exactly what current law requires. This is precisely why we need SB 1367, to ensure doctors do all they can to save the life of a baby who survives an abortion.”

Taylor goes on to say she dismembers the baby in the womb because, “it’s not a matter of how I feel about it coming out intact, but I have to worry about my staff and people’s feelings about it coming out looking like a baby.” Then, she laughs before discussing potentially changing her method to accommodate a trafficker. She finishes with, “I’m definitely interested.”

Herrod says abortion doctors have been able to skirt the weak law for far too long, “It is time to take seriously how we treat the most vulnerable among us. When a baby is born alive it is no longer an abortion, it is a live birth. Doctors should treat the child with the same humane care and concern they would any premature baby. This latest video by The Center for Medical Progress highlights exactly why Arizona needs SB 1367, to ensure these babies get every chance at life.”
